Year of the Russian

As fellow Canadians, we often expect our boys to be at the top of every offensive category. This year, that ain't the case.

Take one look at the statistics and you'll see Russian written everywhere. It's a Russian's year.

Alex Ovechkin is undoubtedly the most exciting and best player this year as he unexpectedly reached the 60-goal plateau and once more, the 100-point mark.

Evgeni Malkin has proven Pittsburgh doesn't need Sidney Crosby. He actually plays better without Crosby than with him.

Two Russians, two runs at the MVP. But wait, there's more.

One big reason the Montreal Canadiens are up there in the standings is Alexei Kovalev. He's the best player to have on the power play and is an offensive machine. He's definitely worthy of comeback player of the year.

Speaking of comeback, look no further than Nikolai Zherdev who's turned his career around. Add in Ilya Bryzgalov in Phoenix or maybe even Sergei Gonchar in Pittsburgh.

Either way, it's a Russian's year.

Steven N., Montreal, Que.
