Detroit placed goaltender Jimmy Howard on injured reserve on Saturday. The 32-year-old is expected to miss 10-14 days due to a groin injury.
The Detroit Red Wings list of injured players grew by two names on Saturday night.
Both Brendan Smith and Tyler Bertuzzi left the game against the Montreal Canadiens in the second period.
According to Ansar Khan of MLive.com, Smith suffered a right knee injury while Bertuzzi injured his left leg on a hit from Habs blue liner Alexei Emelin.
Bertuzzi has appeared in seven games with the Red Wings this season. The 21-year-old has three goals and three assists in 10 AHL games with the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Smith is fourth amongst Red Wings defensemen averaging 18:23 a night in ice time. The 27-year-old has two goals and two assists in 20 games this season.
On Friday night, the Wings lost goaltender Jimmy Howard to a groin injury. Howard was placed on injured reserve on Saturday. According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, Howard is expected to miss 10-14 days.
Detroit is already without Andreas Athanasiou, Darren Helm and Alexey Marchenko – all three are on injured reserve along with Johan Franzen and Joe Vitale.
The Red Wings continue their three-game home stand on Tuesday against the Dallas Stars.
