Minnesota Wild left winger Zach Parise has been ruled out of this week’s action with an MCL sprain, but GM Chuck Fletcher said, “in terms of knee injuries, it was the best-case scenario.” Parise will be evaluated on a week-to-week basis.

After suffering a knee injury in Thursday’s game against the Nashville Predators, Minnesota left winger Zach Parise will be out on a week-to-week basis, according to the Wild. And while that sounds lethal for the Wild, who are in tough in the Central Division, it could have been much worse.

"All things considered, in terms of knee injuries, it was the best-case scenario,” Wild GM Chuck Fletcher said Saturday in an update, saying Parise had suffered a “sprained MCL in his right knee.”

The hit that injured Parise was a knee-on-knee collision with Predators right winger James Neal. While some Minnesota fans were calling for Neal to receive supplemental discipline, the league determined the hit was not worthy of any punishment. For what it’s worth, Neal did not receive a penalty on the play, either.

Following the collision with Neal, Parise headed to the dressing room, but returned three minutes later. He was able to remain in the game and take an additional four shifts, including two over one minute in length. However, Parise left the bench with time remaining in the first period and was ruled out of the remainder of the contest in the second period.

While week-to-week isn’t a clear-cut timeline for Parise, Fletcher seemed optimistic about the recovery.

"It certainly isn't months, it's not days, but he'll clearly be out this week," Fletcher said. "Next week, we'll have a better feel for how the recovery is going.”

Through 12 games, Parise has seven goals and nine points. Prior to his injury, Parise had been held without a point in his previous three games, but he did average three of his highest ice times of the season.
