Last playoff meeting: 1995, Detroit won second-round series 4-0.

Season series: 3-1 for San Jose. Sharks won 5-1 at home Oct. 19, Detroit won 2-1 at home Oct. 25, San Jose won 3-2 at Detroit on Dec. 2, and Sharks won 9-4 at home Jan. 4.

First round: Detroit 4-2 over Calgary; San Jose 4-1 over Nashville.
