Watch Finland’s Jokipakka set up Haula breakaway goal with incredible pass

The Finns may have lost their second tuneup game ahead of the World Cup, but Jyrki Jokipakka had the highlight of the night when he completed a brilliant two-zone saucer pass.

Even though the World Cup is still in exhibition mode, it’s going to take one incredible set up during tournament play for anyone to deliver a better assist than Finland’s Jyrki Jokipakka.

Though Finland was downed in the second game of the pre-tournament home-and-home set against rival Sweden, Jokipakka had arguably the highlight of the night.

Late in the third period, with Finland trailing 5-2, the Calgary Flames blueliner ended up behind his own net trying to find an outlet. And instead of making a quick pass to start a breakout, Jokipakka went for the nearly two-thirds ice stretch pass that resulted in a clearcut breakaway for teammate Erik Haula:

No, your eyes do not deceive you: that’s a chest-high dart of a pass from behind the Finns net right into the palm of Haula, who knocks it down and finishes it off with a five-hole goal on Sweden’s Henrik Lundqvist.

The Flames are hoping to continue to see more of the same out of Jokipakka as the tournament progresses, because that bodes well for one of the pieces who was brought in as part of the Kris Russell trade at this past season’s trade deadline.

Jokipakka, 25, showed his offensive prowess in his short stay with the Flames, registering six assists in 18 games with the Flames while averaging nearly 18 minutes of ice time per game.
