Watch Carey Price make a skate save without facing the play

Carey Price is just toying with the rest of the league at this point. Even though the Canadiens lost in overtime to the Predators, Montreal may not have even gotten there were it not for Price's skate save on Kevin Fiala. And Price made the save without even facing the play.

The way Carey Price is playing this season is almost unfair. He leads the league in every single goaltending category, he's the biggest reason for the Canadiens success and now he's just showing off by making saves without even facing the play.

During Tuesday's game against the Nashville Predators -- and maybe his only true Vezina Trophy opponent, Pekka Rinne -- Price gathered a loose puck in front of his crease and attempted to clear it around his net to defenseman P.K. Subban. Unfortunately for Price, Subban was a little further away than Price had expected and the puck ended up on the tape of Predators winger Kevin Fiala.

Fiala, who was playing in his first career NHL game, got his "Welcome to the NHL" moment when Price slid across his crease facing away from the play to make a skate save:

Of course, Price famously faced the wrong way and used the reflection from the plexiglass to make a save in the All-Star Skills Competition in 2012, but to rob Fiala of his first career goal in such a fashion is almost cruel.

As incredible as the save may be, it speaks to just how well Price has been playing that it needs to be a near perfect shot in order to beat him. Consider that Price's stats right now are closest to the gaudy numbers Dominik Hasek posted in 1998-99 during the height of his career.

In '98-99, Hasek won the Vezina with a 1.87 goals-against average, .937 save percentage, nine shutouts and a 30-18-14 record. Following Tuesday's game, Price has a 1.88 GAA, .937 SP, nine shutouts and a 40-15-5 record.
