Watch Brad Marchand split two defenders, use quick deke to score beautiful goal

Boston Bruins winger Brad Marchand scored a highlight-reel goal Tuesday, splitting the New Jersey Devils defense before deking goaltender Keith Kinkaid and burying a backhand. Marchand, 27, now has a career-best 35 goals and 56 points on the season.

Bruins winger Brad Marchand had never cracked the 30-goal mark before this season began, but watching some of the goals he has scored this season leave one wondering how that’s even possible. Tuesday night against the New Jersey Devils, Marchand scored one of the nicest goals of the season and he made it look easy.

Less than five minutes into the second period, Marchand was cutting through the neutral zone when he was spotted by Zdeno Chara, who rifled a pass that was just behind Marchand. Reaching back, Marchand was able to get enough on the puck to tap it between his own legs and drag it toward Devils defensemen Damon Severson and Andy Greene. Both New Jersey defenders closed on Marchand, but it was the pesky Bruin who was able to sneak free, go in alone on Devils goaltender Keith Kinkaid and deke him out of position:

Marchand’s beauty marks goal No. 35 on the season and it puts him on pace for 37 goals this season. Keep in mind that Marchand missed five games, and it’s within the realm of possibility that he could have scored 40 goals this season after never having a season of more than 28 in his career. Already, Marchand has 11 more tallies than he had all of last season, and he has been the player who has benefitted most from Boston’s marked offensive improvement over their output in 2014-15.

Beyond being seventh league-wide in goal scoring, Marchand, 27, has also reached a personal best when it comes to total points and there are still five games remaining in the Bruins’ season. His previous high was 55 points in 77 games during 2011-12 season. He currently has 56 points in 72 games.

With how well Marchand has played this season, he’s almost assuredly in line for a raise over the $4.5-million he’s earning this season, and Boston can open contract talks as soon as this season ends.
