Coyotes rookie Anthony Duclair channelled his inner Peter Forsberg Saturday night and put the one-handed shot to perfect use. After blowing by Predators defensemen Roman Josi and driving through a check from Shea Weber, Duclair tucked a one-handed past netminder Carter Hutton.

The Arizona Coyotes were well on their way to victory Saturday night against the Nashville Predators, but rookie Anthony Duclair sent fans home with something more than a shutout victory to talk about. In the final seconds of the victory, Duclair scored what might be the nicest goal any rookie nets this season.

Duclair knocked the puck off of Predators winger Eric Nystrom’s stick with less than 20 seconds remaining and the Coyotes rookie burst up the ice with a head of steam. Duclair used his speed to blow by defenseman Roman Josi — no easy feat — and then powered into and warded off a slash by Shea Weber before using the one-handed deke Peter Forsberg made famous to score:

There’s a few things that are remarkable about this play.

First, Duclair’s speed to get by Josi is something else. Josi will likely finish in the top 10 of Norris Trophy voting when the season ends, yet he was turned around by the speed of Duclair. Second, Duclair — who has 58 career games to his name — went right at Weber, who is one of the toughest defensemen in the league and has finished no lower than eighth in Norris voting in each of the past seven seasons. Those are no slouches on defense.

Lastly, that Duclair had the presence of mind to go back the other way with the one-handed move speaks volumes about the offensive production he’s capable of. Through 40 games this season, Duclair now has 12 goals and 23 points and sits fifth in rookie scoring.

Arizona hung on for the 4-0 victory and the win extended their grasp on the second spot in the Pacific Division. The Coyotes are nine points back of the Los Angeles Kings for the division lead, but hold a four-point lead over the Vancouver Canucks for second in the Pacific.
