When Mark Streit was drafted 262nd overall in the 2004 draft, many analysts thought he was a long shot to make the NHL. But through hard work and perseverance the 6-foot, 197-pounder was able to crack the big leagues.
Coming off a banner year in 2006-07, where he split time between defense and forward in Montreal, the Swiss-born defender chose to leave the Canadiens for a full-time spot on the blueline in New York.
In his first season with the Islanders, Streit set a career high in goals with 16 and for the first time finished the year a plus player. Adam Proteau explores the development of Mark Streit.
