Hockey fans may not know the name Aaron Ekblad right now, but if the young man continues his current trajectory there is no doubt he will become a household name in the not too distant future.
This spring Ekblad became only the second player in Ontario League history to be granted “exceptional player” status (John Tavares was the first to receive the distinction, in 2005).
The Barrie Colts then proceeded to choose the 15-year-old Ekblad first overall in the OHL Priority Selection draft in no small part due to his immense size. At 6-foot-3 and 185 pounds the Belle River, Ont., native is physically ready to make the jump to major junior.
THN’s Ryan Kennedy caught up with the Colts defensemen to reflect on his recent experiences and discuss what lies ahead.
