No player did more to make a name for himself at the 2010 World Junior Championship than Swiss forward Nino Niederreiter. While his six goals and 10 points didn’t lead the tournament, but his ability to will the underdog Swiss to victory over a talented Russian squad demonstrated his talent for rising to the occasion.
In June, Niederreiter became just the fourth Swiss player to be taken in the first round when the New York Islanders called his name fifth overall in Los Angeles. And in October Niederreiter became the fourth-youngest player in the expansion era to score in the NHL when he lit the lamp against the Washington Capitals.
With his first goal behind him, Rory Boylen caught up with the Swiss phenom as he settled into his first season in the NHL.
