Veteran NHL assistant coach Wayne Fleming passes away at age 62

Long-time and respected NHL assistant coach Wayne Fleming passed away Tuesday after a long fight with brain cancer. He was 62.

Fleming started his career with the University of Manitoba and later found his way to a head coaching job with Leksands in Sweden from 1992-1994. Flwming's first NHL gig came as an assistant with the New York Islanders in 1997. He would go on to also coach in Phoenix, Philadelphia, Calgary and finally with Tampa Bay from 2010-2012.

The Winnipeg native was a part of Hockey Canada throughout his career, winning Olympic silver with the team in 1992 and gold in 2002.

After a malignant timor was discovered, Fleming underwent brain surgery in April of 2011.

Last month, Fleming was inducted to the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame.
