VANCOUVER - Goaltender Manny Legace's attempt to land an NHL job with the Vancouver Canucks is over.

The Canucks told the 38-year-old veteran on Friday he won't be playing any more exhibitions with Vancouver this season.

"There seemed to be some interest out there,'' said Canuck coach Alain Vigneault. "Other teams are looking for some goaltenders.

"We gave him the opportunity to stay with us and practice or (for) him and his agent to look at something else. He decided look to see if there was something else out there.''

Legace played parts of two exhibition games for the Canucks and allowed four goals.

"He did a good job,'' said Vigneault. "I'm hoping this will permit him to take a step to come back into the league.''

The Canucks already have goaltenders Roberto Luongo and Cory Schneider. Swedish goalie Eddie Lack is expected to get the bulk of work this season with Vancouver's American Hockey League team in Chicago.

Legace has a 2.41 goals-against average in 365 NHL games with four teams. The Toronto native won a Stanley Cup with Detroit in 2002.

He spent last year playing in Germany.
