It wasn't pretty, but it got the job done. Vernon Fiddler nearly lost the game for Dallas in the shootout, but recovered in time to turn the tide and help get the Stars a much-needed extra point on the night.

The Dallas Stars desperately need points in the last few games of the season if they want to make the playoffs and with Phoenix losing in overtime to Columbus, the boys from Big D had a chance to give themselves a little breathing room. But Nashville proved to be a plucky opponent last night and the Stars were forced to a shootout. That's when Vernon Fiddler found out about grace under pressure. OK, it was far from graceful, but it worked:

With the second point earned on the night to Phoenix's one, Dallas is two points clear of the Coyotes with three games apiece left on the schedule. The Stars hold the tiebreaker thanks to an insurmountable lead in regulation/overtime wins. After Fiddler's unorthodox goal, Tyler Seguin won the skills competition for Dallas on the team's next attempt for the 3-2 victory.
