VANCOUVER - Vancouver is bracing for a possible deciding game of the Stanley Cup playoffs with liquor store closures and increased inspections of pubs and bars to ensure they're not overcrowded.

Government and private liquor stores in the city's downtown core were ordered to close an hour before Game 6 of the series between the Vancouver Canucks and Boston Bruins as Vancouver leads the series 3-2.

Police have been out in full force during previous games to monitor open drinking and make hundreds of liquor seizures.

Vancouver Fire Department Capt. Gabe Roder says fire prevention officers will be inspecting drinking establishments Monday to ensure they don't have too many patrons and check that exits are clear and fire safety equipment is working.

Roder says two clubs were at nearly double their allowable occupancy during last Friday's game despite getting prior warnings, and the operators could face charges.

As in previous games, the city of Vancouver closed some streets in the downtown core to allow crowds to watch the action on big-screen TVs.
