The USHL’s Chicago Steel is heading to the Junior Club World Cup in Yekaterinburg, Russia, and they’ll be decked out in new threads when they hit the ice. Part of their uniform for the upcoming tournament is the Superman logo with an American flag backdrop.

When the USHL’s Chicago Steel head to Yekaterinburg, Russia, to compete against junior teams from seven other countries, the club will be decked out in some new duds. Tuesday afternoon, in an announcement attended by USHL commissioner Bob Fallen and Chicago president and CEO John Egan, the Steel were named the USHL’s representative in the Junior Club World Cup. The World Cup, which will take place in Yekaterinburg, Russia, from Aug. 24-30, will pit eight junior teams from eight nations against each other. When the Steel hit the ice, they might have an early advantage in style. The jerseys, which have a steel plating texture as a background, have all the staples of the Steel’s jerseys, but the black uniform has a special twist:

Chicago Steel black jersey While the grey jersey has the Steel’s everyday logo — as well as American flag shoulder patches to help represent their nation — the black sweater has a unique, Superman-style feel to it with the American flag behind the iconic ’S’ logo. The grey sweaters also bear the logo, but on the sleeves of the jersey. The sweaters were modelled by Nick Olczyk, the son of former NHLer and current NBC broadcaster Eddie Olczyk. The upcoming tournament will be the fourth consecutive year a USHL team participates in the JCWC. Clubs from the USHL have medalled in each of the past three tournaments and the Steel will look to make if four-for-four in 2015. “Our organization is absolutely thrilled to represent the USHL and the United States in the Junior Club World Cup,”
said Egan. “We look forward to representing our city, and our country on and off the ice. It will be an outstanding hockey experience, but also a unique life experience for our players, coaches, and staff.” The Steel will play in Group ‘A’ against Latvia, Kazakhstan and Russia. Finland, Sweden, Belarus and Russia will make up Group ‘B’.
