COLOGNE, Germany - Stefan Lassen converted his own rebound in overtime Monday as Denmark stunned the U.S., 2-1 in group play at the IIHF World Hockey Championship.

It was the Americans' second straight overtime loss in the tournament after falling by the same score against Germany, and they now need to beat Finland in the last group game to reach the next round.

Lassen's wrist shot was stopped by U.S. goaltender Scott Clemmensen, but the defenceman tapped in the rebound 2:04 into the extra period to hand the Americans an embarrassing loss.

"Certainly it's not where we want to be," U.S. coach Scott Gordon said. "We are just not generating enough offence. We are just making too many turnovers and that isn't allowing us to set up our fore-checking."

Denmark, which also beat Finland in its first game, took the lead 8:52 into the second period on a power-play goal by Lars Eller, before Keith Yandle replied for the Americans three minutes later.

Goalie Patrick Galbraith had 30 saves for Denmark, which clinched a spot in the next round.

Also Monday, Switzerland reached the second round with a 3-0 victory over Italy in Group B. Thibaut Monnet, Damien Brunner and Martin Pluss scored for the Swiss.

Elsewhere, Canada routed Latvia 6-1 in Group B while Finland beat Germany 1-0 in Group D.
