Tyler Ennis scores leaping, spinning backhand Goal of the Year candidate

There’s no way to aptly describe the highlight reel goal that Tyler Ennis scored Friday night against the Montreal Canadiens. The Buffalo Sabres center’s goal is best described as a leaping, spinning, falling backhand thing of beauty.

Sure, this call by Rick Jeanneret is great – aren’t they all? – but the goal by Buffalo’s Tyler Ennis is next-level hockey wizardry.

Where do you start with a goal like this? Not only does Ennis use his speed to burst by Montreal Canadiens defenseman Alexei Emelin, he then drives the net, leaps over the pad of goaltender Carey Price, spins, falls, and puts the puck into the net on the backhand. No amount of words could do it justice:

It’s probably going to take a few views to really understand everything that was going on.

The other great thing about this goal is where the 5-foot-9 center ends up when all is said and done: on his back with his feet in the air, arms outstretched in celebration. Absolutely brilliant.
