CHICAGO - Troy Brouwer scored from the edge of the crease with 6:18 left in the third period to snap a tie, and the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-3 on Tuesday night in the pre-season opener for both teams.

Brouwer drove down the slot and knocked in a rebound of Colin Fraser's shot from the side of the net. Pascal Pelletier, Kris Versteeg and Patrick Sharp had goals for Chicago, while Jason Chimera, Jiri Novotny and Alexandre Picard scored for Columbus.

Corey Crawford played the entire game in goal for the Blackhawks and made 25 saves.

Fredrik Norrena played the first two periods for Columbus, stopping 22 of 24 shots. Dan LaCosta played the third and turned aside five of seven.

After a scoreless first period, the Blackhawks took a 2-0 lead early in the second on goals scored 22 seconds apart by Pelletier and Versteeg.

Chimera cut it to 2-1 at 4:52 of the second with a tip-in. Novotny was credited with a deflected goal that tied it at 10:25.

Picard gave Columbus a 3-2 lead 8:36 into the third, but Sharp's power-play goal at 10:44 tied it again.
