Maple Leafs winger Nazem Kadri was fined $5,000 Friday for two dives which have occurred over the past month. Kadri wasn’t the only player fined, though, as Coyotes center Martin Hanzal and Oilers winger Nail Yakupov also received diving fines.

Maple Leafs winger Nazem Kadri is the first player this season to be fined twice for diving, and he managed to land both fines on the same day.

The NHL announced Friday that Kadri, 25, has been fined a total of $5,000 for two separate diving infractions that occurred in March. The first dive Kadri was fined for came in a March 12 game against the Ottawa Senators when Kadri fell down after getting tangled up with Chris Neil. He was fined yet again for diving during a March 21 contest when he fell to his knees after a slash from Josh Jooris in a game against the Calgary Flames:

Prior to the fines, Kadri had been warned by the NHL for embellishing a call in a Feb. 4 contest against New Jersey. While the initial infraction is not publicized by the league, it’s possible Kadri’s warning came after he snapped his head back following an elbow in the face from Devils center Adam Henrique:

The timing of Kadri’s fines is notable because Maple Leafs coach Mike Babcock recently stood up for what he believed to be a non-call following a cross check on Kadri late in the third period of a March 26 game against the Boston Bruins.

“So that’s four games the memo must be out there that they’re not allowed to call a penalty [on infractions against Kadri],” Babcock said post-game, via Sportsnet. “It’s got to be over with now. Let’s get on with it. When there’s a penalty let’s call a penalty. Let’s move on.”

Kadri wasn’t the only player tagged with a diving fine Friday, though. Arizona Coyotes center Martin Hanzal and Edmonton Oilers winger Nail Yakupov were also hit with fines, both from a March 12 game between the Coyotes and Oilers.

Hanzal’s fine stems from a dive that resulted in a hooking call to Oilers winger Leon Draisaitl. He was originally warned for diving following a Dec. 6 incident.

Later in the contest, Yakupov drew an interference call when he was knocked down by Coyotes defenseman Nicklas Grossmann. That triggered the fine for Yakupov, who was originally cited for diving following an Oct. 13 game against the Dallas Stars.
