LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Los Angeles Clippers have joined the Lakers and the NHL's Kings in making the playoffs, the first time the three Staples Center co-tenants have all reached the post-season since the arena opened in 1999.
The Kings have already opened their playoff series, leading Vancouver 3-0 in the first round. The Lakers clinched a playoff berth last Friday, and the Clippers joined them in the post-season Monday night for the first time in five years.
Since Staples Center opened in October 1999, six times two of the three teams have been in the playoffs at the same time. Five of those times involved the Lakers and the Kings and in 2006, the Lakers and Clippers reached the post-season. In 2004-05, none of the three teams advanced, although the Kings could not because of the NHL lockout.
