• Interesting, if not exactly a surprise, to see Todd Bertuzzi attempt to shift blame to his former coach Marc Crawford for the ex-Canuck’s infamous assault on Steve Moore in 2003.
I agree with the notion that it shouldn’t only be Bertuzzi facing the heat for ending Moore’s career. But make no mistake – neither Crawford nor Bertuzzi is the biggest boogeyman here.
When Moore’s $38-million lawsuit is heard before the courts, North American hockey’s twisted and borderline medieval culture will be what is on trial.
That is as it should be, and there are more than a few NHL types very, very nervous to see the outcome.
• Dear Anyone Behind The Scenes Of NBC’s NHL Coverage: I like Pierre McGuire a lot and I’m sure you do, too.
But his many strengths do not include serving as an intermission host and it’s high time you spent a little extra money on a third man to go along with the McGuire/Mike Milbury pairing that currently entertains between periods.
Your attention in this matter is greatly appreciated.
• Caught the Rangers-Penguins game Sunday and I couldn’t help but notice what a plodding, low-risk, low-reward attack the Blueshirts seem to favor this season.
And it shows in their goals-for total (203 in 78 games), which is the third-lowest of any team in either conference currently in position to make the playoffs.
Of course, the New Jersey Devils are tied for worst in that regard, with just 198 goals-for in 78 games. However, the idea Lou’s Crew is the only team playing a dreadful brand of hockey just isn’t true, and you need only look across the Hudson River to understand that fact.
