MONTREAL - Retired National Hockey League star Sergio Momesso is reeling after the theft of some of his most prized hockey mementoes.

Montreal police say Momesso's house in nearby Kirkland was robbed Saturday evening. They say the stolen items include three of his NHL game-worn jerseys as well as a diamond-encrusted Stanley Cup ring from the Montreal Canadiens' 1986 cup win.

Momesso, 42, played left wing for five teams during a 13-year NHL career and rounded out his pro career playing in Europe.

The jerseys taken include a red Canadiens jersey with the number 36, a black Vancouver Canucks sweater with the number 27 and a white St. Louis Blues number 27 jersey signed by Brett Hull, his retired Blues linemate.

Montreal police Const. Jean-Pierre Levis said Wednesday that nothing else appears to have been taken.

Momesso, who retired from professional hockey in 2000, is now the owner of a popular Montreal restaurant.

He was originally drafted by the Canadiens in the second round of the 1983 NHL entry draft.

Levis said anyone with information about the stolen items is urged to contact police.
