Roberto Luongo, G, Vancouver Canucks
2008/11/09: Vancouver Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo recorded his third straight shutout in Saturday's 2-0 victory over the Minnesota Wild. Louie stopped all 29 shots he faced and he overcame having his bell rung after some contact with Minnesota forward Andrew Brunette. He has a 201:08 scoreless stretch going, last giving up a goal on Nov. 2 against Detroit. Luongo and the Canucks are back in action on Wednesday against Colorado.
Sidney Crosby, C, Pittsburgh Penguins
2008/11/09: Pittsburgh Penguins forwards Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin each had difficult nights on Saturday at N.Y. Islanders. Crosby shook off an undisclosed injury to play in the shootout win, but he was scoreless with a minus-2 rating and winced in pain on the bench halfway through the game. He either suffered a new injury or aggravated his existing ailment. Malkin, who had an assist with a plus-1 rating, was clipped on the hand and forced to leave briefly before returning.
Brian Boucher, G, San Jose Sharks
2008/11/09: San Jose goaltender Brian Boucher allowed just one goal on 24 shots in Saturday's 2-1 home win over Dallas, remaining unbeaten (3-0-0) on the season. He is currently filling in for usual starter Evgeni Nabokov, out with a sore leg. The San Jose Mercury News reports Nabokov could be ready to skate by Monday, meaning Boucher will make another start Sunday (at Phoenix).
Erik Ersberg, G, Los Angeles Kings
2008/11/09: Los Angeles goalie Erik Ersberg stopped 27 of 30 shots Saturday night in the Kings' 5-3 home win over St. Louis. It was his third consecutive start, and second straight win. INTEL: Ersberg, 26, hasn't yet officially taken over for the struggling Jason LaBarbera but is certainly challenging for the top job. He is 2-1-1 in five appearances with a .904 save percentage and 1.95 GAA. LaBarbera, 28, is 3-5-1 with an .884 save percentage and 3.01 GAA.
Dan Ellis, G, Nashville Predators
2008/11/09: Nashville Predators goaltender Dan Ellis was on the short end of a hard-luck 1-0 loss at Colorado on Saturday night. He allowed just one goal to veteran forward Darcy Tucker on 20 shots. Ellis and the Predators will try to rebound in Tuesday's game at San Jose.
Peter Budaj, G, Colorado Avalanche
2008/11/09: Colorado Avalanche goaltender Peter Budaj stopped all 26 shots he faced in Saturday's 1-0 win against the Nashville Predators. Budaj ended a personal four-game losing streak in style, picking up his first shutout of the season and the sixth of his career.
Marty Turco, G, Dallas Stars
2008/11/09: Dallas Stars goaltender Marty Turco allowed just two goals on 33 shots in Saturday's 2-1 loss at San Jose. Turco made one of the prettiest saves this season in the game, but he also attempted to backhand the puck back up the middle of the ice and he gave it right to Patrick Marleau, who easily scored the gift game-winner at 19:31 in the third period.
Mikkel Boedker, RW/LW, Phoenix Coyotes
2008/11/09: Phoenix Coyotes rookie forward Mikkel Boedker picked up two goals and a plus-1 rating in 22:52 of ice time in Saturday's game against the Panthers. Boedker broke a five-game goal drought dating back to Oct. 23.
Tomas Vokoun, G, Florida Panthers
2008/11/09: Florida Panthers goaltender Tomas Vokoun was roughed up for four goals on 39 shots in Saturday's 4-1 loss at Phoenix. One of the goals allowed came off the stick of former Panthers captain Olli Jokinen, who also had an assist and plus-2 rating. Vokoun and the Cats will be back in action on Sunday in Anaheim and it would not be surprising to see Craig Anderson in between the pipes.
Matt Carle, D, Philadelphia Flyers
2008/11/09: Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Matt Carle made his debut on Saturday against the team which traded him, the Tampa Bay Lightning. Carle logged 25:50 of ice time and he went scoreless with a minus-1 rating. Meanwhile, Steve Eminger was scoreless with a plus-1 rating in 14:00 in his Lightning debut. Steve Downie, the other player in the deal, did not play.
Niklas Backstrom, G, Minnesota Wild
2008/11/09: Minnesota Wild goaltender Niklas Backstrom allowed just two goals on 29 shots in Saturday's 2-0 loss at Vancouver, but Roberto Luongo was a little bit better. Backstrom and the Wild will try to rebound in Thursday's game against Phoenix.

2008/11/09: TSN.ca is reporting that San Jose Sharks forward Jonathan Cheechoo was scratched from Saturday's game against the Stars due to an upper body injury. Cheechoo was hurt on a hard check in the third period of Thursday's game against St. Louis. The source and severity of Cheechoo's injury is not yet known.
Mike Van Ryn, D, Toronto Maple Leafs
2008/11/09: Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Mike Van Ryn suffered a broken nose, broken finger and concussion after a hit from behind by Montreal's Tom Kostopoulos in Saturday's 6-3 win. It is uncertain how much time Van Ryn will be sidelined, but Kostopoulos is likely to hear from the league and will likely face a fine and possible suspension as a result.

2008/11/08: The Associated Press is reporting that New Jersey Devils defenseman Bryce Salvador was forced to leave Saturday's game at Detroit after blocking a shot with his foot. The source and severity of his injury is uncertain, as is his status for Sunday's game against Edmonton.

2008/11/08: New Jersey Devils forward Brian Gionta was forced to leave Saturday's game in the second period at Detroit due to an undisclosed injury. He was crushed into the boards by defenseman Derek Meech, helped off the ice and then unable to return.

2008/11/08: Columbus Blue Jackets forward Kristian Huselius was unable to play in Saturday's game against the Flames due to a swollen foot. The Columbus Dispatch reports that the forward suffered the injury while blocking a shot in Friday's game against the Canadiens and it cost him a chance to face his former teammates. He is considered day to day.

2008/11/08: New Jersey Devils defenseman Paul Martin was unable to play in Saturday's game at Detroit due to upper body soreness. The Newark Star-Ledger reports that Martin was able to practice on Friday, but his session was limited to just 15 minutes. He has missed three straight games as a result of his injury.

2008/11/08: The Miami Herald is reporting that Florida Panthers forward Kamil Kreps suffered a concussion in Thursday's game at Los Angeles and he will therefore miss Saturday's game at Phoenix. Rostislav Olesz (shoulder) returned from injury to take the spot of Kreps.

2008/11/08: The official website of the Vancouver Canucks is reporting injured forward Pavol Demitra (fractured rib) might be able to return soon. Coach Alain Vigneault said that he expects Demitra to return to practice on Monday. "He's been skating on his own here, the last four days, so we're hoping that we can possibly get him into Monday's practice, I think we're shooting for right now," Vigneault added.
Paul Kariya, LW, St. Louis Blues
2008/11/08: The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that Blues veteran forward Paul Kariya (foot) is expected to return to the lineup for Wednesday's game in Buffalo. Kariya's injury, which was previously listed as just undisclosed, is the result of a slap shot from Ducks defenseman Chris Pronger back in Tuesday's game in Anaheim. Kariya is also reportedly battling a hip ailment.
Evgeni Nabokov, G, San Jose Sharks
2008/11/08: The San Jose Mercury News is reporting that Sharks goaltender Evgeni Nabokov (leg) is expected to miss Saturday's game against Dallas and Sunday's game at Phoenix. Brian Boucher will get the starts and the club recalled Thomas Greiss from Worcester of the American League to serve as the backup. The team does not feel Nabby's injury is serious, but head coach Todd McLellan would not commit to a possible return date either.
Duncan Keith, D, Chicago Blackhawks
2008/11/08: Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith did not practice on Saturday due and head coach Joel Quenneville told the Chicago Tribune that he was simply being rested. It appears that Keith will be ready to suit up for Sunday's game against the Flames.

2008/11/08: Washington Capitals captain Chris Clark was unable to play in Saturday's game against the Rangers due to an undisclosed injury. The Washington Post adds that he was wearing an orange jersey during practice, which is indicative of an injured player. He is considered day to day.
