TAMPA, Fla. - The Tampa Bay Lightning hired scouting veteran Al Murray as director of amateur scouting on Monday.

He spent the last three years as Hockey Canada’s head scout of men’s national teams.

"Al's vast scouting experience will prove to be a great asset for the Lightning as we move forward," general manager Steve Yzerman said in a release. "We are pleased to have him join the organization and I very much look forward to working with him as he leads our amateur scouting staff."

During his time with Hockey Canada, Murray was responsible for all player evaluations and selections for national junior team evaluation and selection camps as well as the national men’s under-18 team.

"We would like to thank Al Murray for his three years of dedication and commitment to Hockey Canada," said Brad Pascall, Hockey Canada’s vice-president of hockey operations/national teams. "He has been a terrific addition to our men's high performance department and we wish him the best of luck in Tampa Bay."

Murray previously spent 12 years as director of amateur scouting with the Los Angeles Kings.
