Stars’ Travis Moen will miss Game 7, out for the remainder of post-season

Dallas Stars veteran winger Travis Moen is out for the remainder of the post-season with an undisclosed injury, per coach Lindy Ruff. Moen, who won a Stanley Cup with the Anaheim Ducks in 2007, suffered the injury in Game 5.

The Stars held off the St. Louis Blues in Monday’s Game 6 to push their second-round series to a seventh and deciding game, and Dallas did so without the services of veteran winger Travis Moen.

Stars coach Lindy Ruff addressed Moen’s absence from the lineup following Game 6, and the outlook didn’t sound good for the 34-year-old winger. Ruff said Moen won’t be available for Game 7 on Wednesday night, and even if the Stars take the seventh game and move on to the Western Conference final, Ruff said Moen won’t be back.

“He got injured in the game at home,” Ruff said. “He’s done for the playoffs.”

Prior to Game 6, Moen had suited up in each of Dallas’ past six playoff games, but was averaging less than seven minutes of ice time per outing. However, it may have been apparent Moen was dealing with an ailment when he only stepped on the ice for one, 34-second shift in the entire third frame. He didn’t see the ice for the remainder of the game. Stars GM Jim Nill said before Game 6 that Moen would be out with an injury for Game 6, via the Dallas Morning News’ Mike Heika, though Nill didn’t disclose the nature of the injury or that it would see Moen miss the rest of the post-season.

Moen’s injury won’t have the same impact as, say, Tyler Seguin’s, but it’s still the loss of a player who has been a regular in the Stars’ lineup over the pass several games. It also means the Stars will be without one of the players with the most playoff experience, and one who has been a Stanley Cup champion before.

Moen has spent much of the past two seasons in an out of the Stars’ lineup. In 57 regular season games split between 2014-15 and 2015-16, Moen has scored three goals and 11 points for the Stars, but has averaged less than nine minutes of ice time per game over that span. He hadn’t found the score sheet in six games this post-season, but had mustered four shots on goal. In 83 career playoff games, Moen has 11 goals and 19 points, and he won the Stanley Cup with the Anaheim Ducks in 2006-07.
