ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Blues re-signed centre Jay McClement to a US$4.35-million, three-year contract Tuesday.

The 26-year-old posted career-highs in goals (12), assists (14) and points (26) while playing in all 82 regular-season games for the first time in his career.

He also led all NHL forwards with 315:08 of short-handed ice time this past season.

"Jay played his best season in the NHL this past year on both ends of the ice and is one of the best defensive forwards in the league," Blues president John Davidson said in a release. "He will continue to provide strength and experience on the penalty kill as we move forward."

McClement, from Kingston, Ont., has played in 311 career NHL games, all with St. Louis, collecting 35 goals, 76 assists and 140 penalty minutes.
