Two games, two shutouts.

Silverthorn made 24 saves for his second consecutive whitewash as the visiting Iowa Stars blanked the Toronto Marlies 3-0 Saturday night.

Forwards Dave Hacker and Junior Lessard and defenceman Mario Scalzo scored for the Stars - all in the second period - in front of 3,886 fans at Ricoh Coliseum.

Iowa improved to 21-16-1 with its second consecutive victory, and is an impressive 13-8-1 on the road.

The Marlies, meanwhile, fell to 15-19-5 with the loss. Toronto is winless in its past eight games at home (0-7-1) and hasn't won at Ricoh Coliseum since Nov. 29.

Silverthorn, a native of Owen Sound, Ont., was making his second AHL start in two days after being recalled from Idaho (ECHL) on Friday. The 25-year-old netminder, who spent four years at Colgate University before joining Idaho last season, stopped 32 shots in shutting out Hamilton 2-0 on Friday night in his AHL debut.

While the Marlies didn't challenge Silverthorn with many scoring opportunities, he robbed forwards Kevin Baker and Jeff Corey in the third period.

Toronto netminder Justin Pogge, making his first start at home since representing Canada at the Spengler Cup in Switzerland over the holidays, stopped 22 of 25 shots.

The game was tied 0-0 after the first period and Iowa led 3-0 through 40 minutes.

After a scoreless opening period, Hacker deflected Mark Fistric's slapshot from the blue-line past Pogge at 7:52 of the second.

Lessard made it 2-0 when he wired a shot from the left faceoff circle that went through Pogge at

15:17.

With Marlies defenceman Brad Brown in the penalty box for roughing, Scalzo's slapshot from the point made it 3-0 at 19:39.

Iowa was 1-for-4 on the power play, while Toronto went 0-for-3.

The Marlies kick off a seven-game road trip when they visit the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights on Wednesday and the Peoria Rivermen on Friday.
