Sergei Kostitsyn scores twice, adds assist as Bulldogs down Wolves

ROSEMONT, Ill. - Sergei Kostitsyn scored two goals and added an assist as the Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Chicago Wolves 5-4 in American Hockey League action Saturday.

Brock Trotter, Ben Maxwell and Ryan Russell also scored for Hamilton (3-0-1).

Andrew Kozek scored twice while Joey Crabb and Matt Anderson also had goals for Chicago (1-5-0).

Chicago opened the scoring on a power play. Spencer Machacek fired a shot towards the net and Kozek jammed the puck past Hamilton starting goaltender Cedrick Desjardins.

The Bulldogs tied the game 1-1 when Mathieu Darche, who fed a pass to Trotter, who skated in on Chicago starting goaltender Drew MacIntyre before using a backhand-to-forehand move and depositing the puck in the back of the net.

The Bulldogs took a 2-1 lead before the end of the first period. Kostitsyn grabbed a loose puck at the side of the net and fired a shot over the shoulder of MacIntyre.

Kostitsyn added his second goal of the game early in the second period, putting his own rebound past MacIntyre.

Maxwell gave the Bulldogs a 4-1 lead just over a minute later. MacIntyre made a diving save on a Kostitsyn shot that put the goaltender out of position. Maxwell grabbed the loose puck and shot it into the open net for the goal.

The Wolves cut the lead in half with Kozek's second of the game, then Crabb cut the lead to 4-3 with a short-handed goal. Crabb broke in alone on Desjardins before snapping a shot that bounced off the cross bar and in.

Hamilton regained its two-goal lead as Russell ripped a shot from the top of the faceoff circle that sailed through MacIntyre's legs, giving the Bulldogs a 5-3 lead after 40 minutes.

Chicago capped the scoring in the third period. Matt Anderson grabbed a loose puck at the side of the net before rifling a shot past the glove of Desjardins to make the game 5-4.

Desjardins made 30 saves while MacIntyre stopped 22 shots.
