ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Cory Schneider turned aside 27 shots and the red-hot Manitoba Moose earned their ninth win in a row Friday night, beating the Rochester Americans 5-1 in American Hockey League action.

Since opening the season with back-to-back losses to the Hamilton Bulldogs, the Moose (9-2-0-0) have been unstoppable, outscoring the opposition 33-11 over that span. Manitoba has been particularly stingy of late, surrendering just three goals in its past four games.

Schneider, considered the top goaltending prospect in the Vancouver Canucks' system, lowered his league-leading goals-against average to 1.25 while raising his save percentage to .945.

The Moose gave Schneider plenty of offence to work with in a dominant first period. Jason Jaffray opened the scoring on a power play at 8:59, and Pierre-Cedric Labrie extended the lead at 10:24. Jimmy Sharrow's first goal of the season at 12:41 chased Rochester starting netminder Tyler Plante from the net.

Plante finished with just five saves. Chris Beckford-Tseu relieved him and stopped 16 of 18 shots the rest of the way.

James Neal and Darryl Bootland had the other Manitoba goals.

Shawn Matthias had the lone goal for the woeful Americans (1-10-0-0), who have lost five straight to remain at the bottom of the AHL standings. Rochester has allowed a league-high 53 goals on the season.
