SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Sharks are giving another young goaltender a chance to gain some NHL experience.

The team has called up Toronto St. Michael's Majors netminder JP Anderson on an emergency basis, and the 18-year-old Ontario Hockey League netminder will suit up for Saturday's game against the Minnesota Wild.

The move comes a day after the Sharks signed University of British Columbia goalie Jordan White to a one-game amateur tryout contract. He dressed as the team's backup in their 2-1 shootout victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday night.

The Sharks are in need of a backup for Antti Niemi after Antero Niittymaki suffered a groin injury during the morning skate in Vancouver on Thursday.

After Saturday's game, the Sharks will then be off until Wednesday when they travel to Los Angeles to play the Kings.

Anderson was invited to the Sharks training camp and signed with the team in September.

In 30 games with the Majors this season, Anderson is 22-5-1 with a 0.915 save percentage and 2.29 goals-against average.
