The 22-year-old Latvian collided with Bruins defenseman Kevan Miller in the neutral zone and left the game soon after.

The Buffalo Sabres may need to make a recall from the AHL’s Rochester Americans prior to their game against the Washington Capitals on Saturday.

Zemgus Girgensons left the Sabres 4-1 loss to the Boston Bruins with an upper body injury in the first period and did not return to the game.

Buffalo has just 12 forwards on its active roster.

The 22-year-old Latvian collided with Bruins defenseman Kevan Miller in the neutral zone and left the game soon after.

He finished with two hits and 3:05 in ice time prior to leaving.

"Girgensons is upper body right now. We'll evaluate further and maybe know more tomorrow," Dan Bylsma said post-game.

The Sabres' coach added that it is "highly unlikely" Girgensons plays on Saturday.

With Girgensons sidelined, Matt Moulson joined the Sabres’ line of Jack Eichel and Sam Reinhart.

Girgensons has three goals and five assists in 40 games this season while averaging 15:30 a night in ice time.
