Reward winners with higher draft picks

Getting the No. 1 draft pick is a reward and should be played for.

Out of the teams that do not make the playoffs, the team with the most points should get the first pick, the team with the next to most points gets the second pick, and so on, until the team that finishes in last place gets the 14th draft choice.

Then out of the teams that get eliminated from the first round of the playoffs: The team that finished with the most points in the regular season gets the 15th overall pick, and so on to the team with the least amount of regular season points would then pick 22nd.

Then out of the teams that get eliminated in the conference semifinals: The team with the most points gets draft pick 23, down to the team with the fewest gets to pick 26th.

Then the teams that get eliminated in the conference finals: The team with the most points picks 27th and the team with the fewest picks 28th.

The winner of the Stanley Cup would then draft last and the runner-up picks 29th.
