According to a report, Winnipeg Jets winger Evander Kane was late for a team meeting and, following an incident with teammate Dustin Byfuglien, did not board the team bus. Kane then told the team he would not be playing that night.

According to Sportsnet's Chris Johnston, not only was Evander Kane not in the lineup for the Winnipeg Jets’ game against the Vancouver Canucks, he told the team he wouldn’t be playing that evening.

Kane, a Vancouver native, was reportedly not on the team bus to Rogers Arena and couldn’t be reached by phone until, “approximately an hour before the game.”

Johnston reports that Kane's troubles began when the winger wore a tracksuit to Winnipeg's morning meeting, which was a violation of a Jets policy. Apparently unhappy with his teammate’s conduct, Winnipeg defenseman Dustin Byfuglien reportedly threw Kane’s tracksuit into the shower in order to send a message to Kane. Following the incident, the team didn’t see Kane until they were boarding their charter flight back to Winnipeg.

During his post-game meeting with the press, Jets coach Paul Maurice told media that Kane’s absence from the lineup was a, “coach’s decision.” On Thursday, Kane did not participate in practice at the MTS Centre and Maurice said the winger was meeting with team doctors.

Kane could be dealing with a potentially season-ending injury, reports Johnston, something that is believed to have been nagging him all season.

In 37 games this season, Kane has 10 goals and 22 points. He is on pace to post his lowest point total since 2009-10, his rookie season, when he scored 14 goals and 26 points for the Atlanta Thrashers.
