DETROIT - Detroit Red Wings forward Tomas Kopecky will undergo reconstructive knee surgery in two weeks to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

The injury is expected to keep Kopecky, who also suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament, out four to six months, team spokesman John Hahn said Friday.

He will miss the playoffs.

Kopecky limped off the ice 6:48 into the second period of Thursday night's 3-2 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. His legs were taken out from under him in a collision with Columbus' Manny Malhotra.

Kopecky also missed last season's playoffs after suffering a broken collarbone.

In 77 games this season, he had five goals and seven assists for 12 points in 77 games. He also had 43 penalty minutes.

The Red Wings also on Friday announced the signing of forward Justin Abdelkader to a three-year entry level contract. The contract runs through the 2009-2010 season. Terms were not announced.

Abdelkader made his NHL debut Thursday night, playing more than 11 minutes against Columbus. He was Detroit's second-round selection (42nd overall) in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

Abdelkader led Michigan State University's hockey team to the 2007 NCAA Championship, scoring the winning goal in the championship game against Boston College. He was named the tournament's most outstanding player.
