The New York Ranges have signed Justin Fontaine and assigned him to the American Hockey League’s Hartford Wolfpack, the club announced on Sunday.

It’s a one-year, two-way deal worth $600,000 at the NHL level.

The move adds depth to the Rangers forward group up front, which already boasts youngsters such as Jimmy Vesey, Brandon Pirri, Pavel Buchnevich and Mika Zibanejad.

Fontaine attended training camp with the Florida Panthers and Dallas Stars on professional tryouts, but failed to earn a contract from either club.

Originally an undrafted free agent signing of the Wild in April 2011, Fontaine has appeared in 197 NHL games over three seasons with Minnesota scoring 27 goals and 68 points to go along with a plus-22 rating and 58 penalty minutes.
