• The Sharks are playoff roadkill once again. Though there will be some talk of blowing the entire team up and starting over, the smarter plan is to tinker with the league's youngest lineup and allow San Jose's players to develop, much as the Ottawa Senators have done.

That said, if I were Patrick Marleau, I'd be steeling myself for a change of address. And if you think dealing Marleau represents a little more than tinkering, consider the fact he didn't put up a single point against the Red Wings. After a decade in teal, it may be time to cut this fish free.

• Say what you will about Roger Clemens and the New York Yankees, but you've got to admit, the revelation of his return to Manhattan – made from the owner's box in the middle of a game – was one hell of a dramatic announcement. Take note, any and all semi-retired NHLers considering a comeback – the standard, stodgy press conference has been rendered passé.

• This just in: Lou Lamoriello has found a new coach for his Devils. The lucky winner is…hold on a second…apparently, Lou fired him before the press release was sent out.

• The Globe And Mail's Allan Maki has a terrific piece regarding the looming decision on embattled NHLPA head Ted Saskin's fate.

Maki couldn't be more correct when he says the players' union should go after Saskin if it is proven he improperly handled NHLPA funds. This organization needs to find its teeth again – and there's no better place to bite than the butt of someone who did them wrong from within.
