• Minnesota coach Jacques “Confucius” Lemaire Thursday night, after the Wild took a 1-0 lead into the third period against Edmonton and wound up losing 3-1:

“It was just a matter of time before that game went to one side or the other,” Lemaire said.

Now there's the sort of insight that keeps reporters rushing back to Lemaire for more. That, or their mortgage payments.

• Another collapse by the Lightning Thursday in Montreal led to their third straight loss and seventh in their last eight games.

The worst part of the 4-2 loss at the Bell Centre: The Canadiens scored more times (twice) on Tampa Bay's power play than the Bolts did. Jay Feaster is rapidly ascending my list of GMs most likely to make whatever trade he can, as fast as someone else will let him.

• Stellar advice about fighting and the NHL's “revenge culture” from a fairly unlikely source:

“As business people, we have to look at our sport,” said Atlanta Thrashers coach Bob Hartley, whose teams never have shied away from throwing down in the past. “Look at the (Steve) Moore incident in Vancouver. We should learn our lesson. There's a kid out of hockey, lawsuits everywhere, black marks all over our sport. We don't need this."

No counter-arguments from this corner, Bob.

• Hockey phrases I hate, Pt. 2: Referring to a player as a left or right “wing”. Do you ever hear New York Yankees star Johnny Damon called a “Center Field”?
