The Hockey News’ player of the week for the period of May 25-31 is Chris Osgood of the Detroit Red Wings.

Although his stats may have not been the greatest during the regular season, Osgood has been stellar for his Wings in the post-season.

With his team up 3-1 against the Chicago Blackhawks in the second round, the Peace River, Alta., native held strong allowing only one goal on 31 shots to take Game 5 in overtime. Thus beginning his now three-game win streak.

In the last three games, the 5-foot-10, 180-pound netminder posted a .968 save percentage and 1.00 goals-against average. There’s no arguing he’s been key in the Red Wings’ success thus far.

The Wings lead the Pens 2-0 in the championship round and Osgood is just two wins away from his fourth Stanley Cup ring. The only goaltenders with more rings than Osgood are Jacques Plante (6), Charlie Hodge (6), Ken Dryden (6) Turk Broda (5) and Grant Fuhr (5).
