GLENDALE, Ariz. - Doug Sulliman, a former NHL player and assistant coach, was hired as an assistant coach by the Phoenix Coyotes on Thursday.

Sulliman, 48, replaces Rick Tocchet, who was hired this week as an assistant coach by the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Sulliman played in the NHL from 1979-90 and then was an assistant coach with the New Jersey Devils from 1990-93.

He then spent 11 years working on Wall Street and five years in the insurance industry. He also spent time as a television analyst for Devils broadcasts during the 1995-96 season.

Sulliman, a first-round draft pick of the New York Rangers in 1979, had 160 goals and 168 assists in 631 career games for New York, Hartford, New Jersey and Philadelphia.
