GLENDALE, Ariz. - The Phoenix Coyotes are looking at creative ways to expand their brand.

The NHL team has agreed to a one-year sponsorship deal with PGA Tour golfer Jeff Quinney, who will wear the Coyotes logo on his shirt during tournaments starting at this week's FBR Open in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Quinney, who won the 2000 U.S. Amateur, is a graduate of Arizona State University. The sponsorship is believed to be the first of its kind, although golfer Ben Curtis has had a deal with the NFL that has seen him wear gear from the closest team to each tour stop. Former PGA star Payne Stewart also had a similar deal with the league as well.

"The Coyotes are proud to sponsor Jeff Quinney," team COO Douglas Moss said in a statement Tuesday. "He has proven to be a fierce competitor and one of the most talented young players on the PGA Tour.

"The qualities he displays both on and off the golf course, as well as his connection to the Phoenix area, make him the ideal golfer to represent our organization."

Quinney, 29, is a former Canadian Tour player.

At select tournaments in 2008, he'll wear a Swift Transportation logo instead of the Coyotes emblem. The trucking company is also part of the sponsorship agreement.
