PHOENIX - The Phoenix Coyotes were active again on the NHL's deadline day, acquiring defenceman Rostislav Klesla and minor-league forward Dane Byers from Columbus for forward Scottie Upshall and defenceman Sami Lepisto.

Klesla, 28, had spent his entire career with the Blue Jackets. He was the expansion club's first pick (fourth overall) in the 2000 draft.

Klesla, who has hampered by injuries the past two seasons, has three goals and 10 points in 45 games this season. He has 133 points (41-92) in 515 career NHL games.

Byers, 25, has 34 points (12-22) and 120 penalty minutes in 64 AHL games with Springfield and Hartford this season.

Upshall, 27, spent parts of three seasons in Phoenix and will become an unrestricted free agent in the summer. He has 16 goals and 27 points in 61 games this season. Upshall has 165 points (80-85) in 340 career games with Nashville, Philadelphia and Phoenix.

Lepisto, 26, has 11 points (4-7) in 51 games this season. He has 27 points (5-22) in 131 career games with Phoenix and Washington.

The Coyotes were the most active team at last year's deadline, acquiring five players while only losing one regular from their roster.
