TORONTO - Phil Kessel is set to make his debut for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The 22-year-old forward received clearance to play after Tuesday's morning skate and was scheduled to be in the Leafs lineup later in the evening against Tampa Bay.

Kessel was acquired by the Leafs in a September trade with Boston, but has been on the sidelines while recovering from off-season shoulder surgery.

The speedy winger is coming off a season where he scored 36 goals for the Bruins and will be expected to lead the Leafs offensively.

However, Tuesday's game will be his first in almost six months, dating back to the Bruins playoff run in May.

Toronto surrendered two first-round picks and a second-round selection to acquire Kessel and signed him to a US$27-million, five-year deal.
