Canadian hockey star Sidney Crosby will carry the Olympic torch in his home province of Nova Scotia next month.

The Pittsburgh Penguins captain is slated to run in the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay on Nov. 18 in Halifax.

"I am honoured and thrilled to have the opportunity to carry the Olympic flame in my home province of Nova Scotia," the Cole Harbour, N.S., native said in a release. "The torch relay will pass through so many communities and hands on the way to Vancouver and I'm privileged to be part of that special group as the Olympic Flame makes its way to Vancouver for the 2010 Winter Games."

Meanwhile, former Olympian Vicky Sunohara will be the final torchbearer during the Toronto leg of the relay, lighting the cauldron at Nathan Phillips Square on Dec. 17.

Sunohara has represented Canada on the women's hockey team at three Winter Games, winning silver in 1998 and back-to-back golds in '02 and '06.

"The Winter Olympic Games is such an amazing experience, and I have been fortunate to have been able to represent Canada three times at the Games," said the Toronto native. "I feel very honoured to be given this unique opportunity."

Other athletes slated to carry the torch so far include former Vancouver Canucks captain Trevor Linden, NBA star Steve Nash from Victoria and Calgary golfer Stephen Ames.

The torch relay begins its trek in Victoria on Friday. Over 106 days, it will make stops in every province and territory leading up to the lighting of the cauldron at BC Place.

The Games will be held from Feb. 12 to 28 in Vancouver and Whistler, B.C., followed by the Paralympics from March 12 to 21.
