PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh Penguins backup goaltender Brent Johnson has signed a US$1.2-million, two-year contract extension that runs through the 2011-12 season.

Johnson will make $600,000 each season.

Johnson had a 10-6-1 record, a 2.76 goals-against average and a .906 save percentage in his first season as the backup to Marc-Andre Fleury, who is signed through 2014-15.

Johnson, the son of former Penguins goaltender Bob Johnson, gave up two goals or fewer in 16 of 23 appearances this season. He played previously for St. Louis, Phoenix and Washington.
