RALEIGH, N.C. - Veteran forward Cory Stillman is returning to the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Florida Panthers shipped him to Carolina on Thursday for centre Ryan Carter and a 2011 fifth-round draft pick.

“This was a good opportunity for us to add some experience,”Hurricanes general manager Jim Rutherford said in a release.“Cory adds more depth to our forward lines and we are familiar with what he is capable of doing offensively.”

Stillman, 37, has 23 points (seven goals, 16 assists) in 44 games with Florida. The Peterborough, Ont., native played for the Hurricanes from 2005 until 2008. He recorded 26 points (9-17) in 25 games during Carolina's Stanley Cup run in 2006.

Carter, 27, has six points (1-5) in 50 games this season. The White Bear Lake, Minn., native has 32 points (12-20) in 170 career regular-season games with Carolina and Anaheim.

Stillman has 711 points (273-438) in 1,004 career regular-season games with Carolina, Florida, Calgary, St. Louis, Tampa Bay and Ottawa. Stillman, who also won a Stanley Cup with the Lightning in 2004, has 51 points (19-32) in 82 career playoff games.
