Ovie is the next Jagr

Glen Cuthbert, Hamilton, Ont.

The hit by Alex Ovechkin on Jaromir Jagr in the game between the Czechs and Russians at the Olympics represents more than just a good hockey play, it represents a passing of the torch.

For the better part of the past decade, Jaromir Jagr has been, perhaps, the most dominant player in the NHL.

With Pittsburgh in the 1990s, he proved himself to be an electrifying player and played the game with an excitement that few players have since shared.

Until the rise of Ovechkin.

Ovechkin has all the makings of a young-Jagr clone. A European player who leads the league in scoring, jumps around after a goal and generally makes those around him better.

The only thing missing from the image is the classic 90s Jagr hair. Please, Ovie, don't grow the mullet.
