TORONTO (Ticker) -- Games outside the nation's capital have not
gone well for the Washington Capitals.
Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals will attempt to avoid their fifth
consecutive road loss when they visit the Toronto Maple Leafs on
Thanks to its stellar play at the Verizon Center, Washington has
found its way to the top of the Southeast Division. But the
Capitals own a 4-8-2 record away from home, and will need to
improve on that mark to become one of the NHL's elite clubs.
Ovechkin scored a goal and set up two others Thursday as the
Capitals posted a 5-2 victory over the New York Islanders.
Washington did receive a scare from the superstar when he left
the game in the first period with an undisclosed injury.
The 23-year-old Russian returned at the start of the middle
session, but was in obvious discomfort after receiving a
glancing hit from Tim Jackman. Ovechkin was favoring his left
arm when he skated towards the bench.
The Maple Leafs haven't managed to win often anywhere, posting a
4-4-4 record on home ice.
Toronto is looking to avoid a third straight loss after
suffering a 6-3 setback to the Phoenix Coyotes on Thursday.
