"Everything went very well," GM Bryan Murray said on the eve of the first round of the NHL entry draft in this Ohio city.
The hand was an issue for a great part of last season and had to be fixed, said Murray. The surgery on a partially torn meniscus was done at a clinic in Cleveland.
Emery will wait six weeks before beginning his pre-season training program. Murray speculated that Emery would not see game action during training camp until mid-September.
Murray was named GM after John Muckler was fired earlier this week. Murray coached the Senators to the Eastern Conference championship. Ottawa lost to Anaheim in a five-game Stanley Cup final.
Emery, who played every playoff game, is currrently after an increase to the $925,000 he made last season. Agent J.P. Barry will be seeking a significant raise.
Murray said he has talked to "a couple of guys" on the phone about the now-vacant head coaching position.
"Over the next day or two I hope to sit down with a couple of people to discuss the job," he said.
