My son plays net for his Squirt team and we coaches are always reminding him that when a goal is scored, there are five guys in front of him that share the responsibility. Do you have any tips for young goaltenders on handling the pressure/stress?
- Mike Eliason, Glasgow, Mont.

Enjoy the game. There will be tough stretches, but as long as you have fun, those stretches won't last long. You play like you practice. If you practice hard and do your fundamentals properly, it will automatically carry over to the game.

How is the dressing room different this year as opposed to other years with more experienced Capitals teams?
- Wayne Adolph, Winnipeg, Man.

Our team is almost like an expansion team, and when you have that you have guys that are character, hard working players. Everyone is accountable to their teammates and we all respect each other. Our coaching staff also creates a great environment.

With the implementation of the new rules, how do you feel about the amount of contact between skaters and goalies? Do you think players are crashing the crease more to try and draw an interference penalty?
- Danny Alexander, Denton, N.C.

That's the only issue I have with the new rules. It seems like players are taking advantage of the fact that the defenseman can't hold them up any more, allowing them to come with more speed.

What do you think about the new rules concerning goalie equipment?
- Bruce Ellis, Gibbsboro, N.J.

Doesn't really affect me, since I always wore small gear for my size.
There should be an advantage for being big and not make up for a lock of it with bigger gear.

How do you prepare yourself mentally for games?
- Tristan Grandinetti, Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.

I don't put too much pressure on myself; I just go out and give the team a chance to win. I also do visualization.

Where did your nickname 'Godzilla' come from?
- Jason McCarthy, Rariton, N.J.

The fans in Rochester, N.Y. gave it to me back in 1992-93. I'm big and I play with fiery emotion. I also have a bit of a temper.

After you make a spectacular save on a guy, does he ever say “nice save”, or is that taboo?
- Josh Gutmore, Columbus, Ohio

Occasionally it happens, especially if you know the guy well.
